my name as a url

Last night, right when I laid down, I farted incredibly loud. It smelled like a dying animal, too.

I feel like that dying fart animal is the unplanned nature of what I do in entertainment. I finally kind of have an idea as to what we're going to be doing. My brother Josh thinks starting a production company here would be stupid, because who is going to want commercials or music videos made, right?

I don't think he gets what the Internet has done. I don't think many people get it, honestly. Or at least see it as an opportunity. That's what it is, though. It has changed who can make entertainment.

A lot of people think it's the less expensive equipment. It's not. People don't care about video quality as much as we HD-crazies like to believe. Otherwise vlogging, which to me seems like something no one could possibly enjoy watching, would not be popular. And it is. VERY popular. Literally nothing about it is professional: internal mics, jump cuts, full auto cameras... They look and sound TERRIBLE usually. But people watch, because the person behind the camera is like them. It's relatability.

But that isn't why I can make money with a production company. Bands are quickly going to be realizing that they do not need labels. What do labels do, anyway? The same crap we all do now: MySpace, Facebook, Twitter. Why give your money to them? You can promote yourself and keep all the profits.

I think more and more people are going to start looking at their entertainment acts as small business. And small business fills a niche. Rock bands, rappers, standup comedians, whatever. They aren't going to have giant teams setting everything up for them much longer. That is why there is going to have to be a pro-level video production company willing to work with sub $10,000 budgets/paydays. The days of the $3 million music video are over. Stand up specials can't cost $200,000 much longer. Live tour DVDs are going to have to cost nearly nothing soon. Just another day on tour, but with movie cameras and 5 extra people.

Small business entertainent is the next step, believe me. Many people are already successful at it, and as the Internet grows, so does the demand for more. But not bigger, just more choices.

Bands need videos to promote themselves. The more pro it looks, the better the band looks to potential listeners. Standups need DVDs to sell. Business needs commercials that don't suck crap.

I see opportunity where big companies see worthless busywork. Small business entertainment.
